Information
Emma Piercy is a designer and artist working across type, identity, drawing, image and art direction. She’s drawn to historical forms, and to the strangeness that surfaces when you look at them closely enough. Her current work explores the space between reading and looking, where writing can be experienced as both language and image.
Her work has appeared on the cover of Eye’s type special issue, and a poster of hers is held in the permanent collection of Poster House, New York.
Projects often begin with a constellation of references that seem to belong together: a found document, a line of modernist poetry, a piece of ambient music. The work forms where they meet.
Her debut typeface, Ceraph, published by Sharp Type, asks how restrained, legible letterforms can carry atmospheric resonance.
Alongside her own practice, she works across culture, fashion and technology, creating conceptually led identities, logotypes and custom type. Her commercial work shares the same interest in history, character and the expressive potential of form.
